Thursday 13: Places to Submit Short Stories

Last month was Story A Day May, and those of us who participated (or who love writing short between longer works) need places to submit our work! I’ve gathered a small collection of e-zines, websites, and anthologies currently accepting submissions.

  1. Coming Together: wants erotic romance/erotica. Awesome erotic anthologies edited by Alessia Brio and Will Belegon. Most anthologies accept stories up to 10k; all proceeds go to charity.
  2. For The Girls: wants erotica (short stories up to 2.5k and flash fiction from 300-500 wds). Submission guidelines
  3. Oysters and Chocolate: wants erotic short stories from 500-5k words. Submission guidelines
  4. Three Pillows: wants bisexual erotica, especially with M/M content. Submission guidelines
  5. Fishnet Magazine: wants literary erotic fiction from 1k-4k (although will consider up to 6k). Submission guidelines
  6. Heroes and Heartbreakers: wants romance (non-erotic) from 6k-15k. Great visibility, very selective. Submission guidelines
  7. Enchanted Conversations: themed fairy tale e-zines with “Cinderella” and “Little Red Riding Hood” taking submissions this year. Looking for stories up to 1.5k, no more explicit than PG-13. Submission guidelines
  8. The Cowboy (Cleis Press): Anthology looking for hetero erotic romance featuring cowboys (1.5k to 4.5k), edited by Delilah Devlin. Submission guidelines
  9. Hotel Erotica (Cleis Press): Hotel-themed erotica for anthology edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel (1.k to 4k). Submission guidelines
  10. Glimmer Train: wants literary pieces (length requirements vary by month). Very selective. Submission guidelines
  11. Sasee Magazine: wants non-fiction stories and essays from 500–1k words for their women’s e-zine. Submission guidelines
  12. The Pedestal Magazine: wants high-quality literary and genre fiction 500-5k words. Open to submissions on a cycle. Submission guidelines
  13. LASR/Whipped Cream: wants romance and erotic romance short stories 1.3-1.5k. Token payment + advertising space, good exposure. Submission guidelines

  1. I keep saying that I can’t write short and then I keep doing blog hops were I have to do just that. Maybe I’ll give these a try. I’ve been eyeing the Three Pillows erotica call for a while now. I just need to see a sample of what they want and see if I can pull off. Thanks for the reminder!

    Happy TT,

  2. The only one I’ve heard of previously is Glimmer Train, and you’re right–they are very difficult to get into.
